Review: Tempting the Beast

Tempting the Beast Tempting the Beast by Lora Leigh
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Can be read once.

Callan Lyons is a genetic experiment. One of six fighting for freedom and the survival of their Pride. Merinus Tyler is the reporter who will tempt him, draw him, until the fury of the "mating frenzy" locks them into a battle of sexual heat there is no escape from.

This story concept is similar to the few stories I've read before. Maybe my expectation was high because of that and it didn't please me much. Callan is spliced with Lion's DNA so, he is um... aggressive.

The story started really well, promising a strong female lead. Then, the scene shifts - a huge time skip - the female character spies on the naked hero while he masturbates and gets turned on. The virgin heroine craves for sex like never before and practically pleads the hero to have sex with her.

The overly sexual content and mature language threw me off. I didn't feel like I am reading a romance, it was just a porn for me. There is no love involved and even as the female tries to escape the hero force her to have sex with him. Reason-she is some type of mating frenzy. The explanation is not convincing. Then, just after the rape scene they again have sex due to mating frenzy and by the end she confesses her love for him.

I liked Kane and Sherra's story which comes in the later half of the story. It also hints the sequel and it had a depth to it that this story missed. I do plan to read the sequel. Most stories that start off like this have better sequels, so let's see.
