My Experience with Inkitt
Hello all,
It's a wonderful morning here and I am all geared up to write. I wanted to write this post for so long. I have come across many posts about Inkitt scams and claims that the company is fake, just taking away the rights of the authors and such.
I wanted to share my experience with you all, so that you can decide it for yourself.
An year ago, I was approached by Inkitt to participate on their Novel contest. I've never heard about them before, so I inquired and was supplied with whole lot of BS. I did submit my first book and then, pulled it out of the contest because I wasn't ready.
I was a newbie then. I had trouble with so many things and I wasn't ready to face the contest or nowhere ready to be published. I told the Inkitt staff that I wasn't ready. There were times I felt bad for turning them down, not to mention that I had a very less fan base then.
Now, a year later, I've established a good fan base and my confidence levels were better than before. I was surprised to receive an invitation from them again. This time, with a different offer. I grabbed the opportunity to become a part of their Reader's Affiliate Program.
I laughed when I read a blog post saying that Inkitt takes away your copyright. Inkitt doesn't do that. I've posted 11 stories on Inkitt so far and I control every aspect about my book.
The Inkitt team has been supportive than I could imagine. They respond within 12 hours and handles everything professionally. I love the transparency and working with them is really a great experience. They paid me what they offered and I am happy about it.
Another great thing is that Inkitt has more mature audience. Their comments are constructive and helps you grow as an author. Your works are also available in their site listings and it got me many fresh reads.
As you all know, I started with Wattpad. While Wattpad is good in its own way, it's really hard to get noticed among the millions of books available on the platform. Getting your books featured or signing up for their futures program is like a dream. However, in Inkitt, my experience so far is a pleasant one.
As for the publishing, I do not know about this. But, as a writer, you hold the rights to do what you want to do with your book. If you receive a contract, read through it before signing the contract. They won't do anything out of the agreement and you are responsible if you were careless about it.
Many of my author friends has published with Inkitt and are successful in their career as a writer. So, Happy writing folks... Enjoy what you do.
